HKEX Hang Seng Biotech Index Futures
The first exchange-traded derivatives tracking Hong Kong's biotech sector.
Hang Seng Biotech Index Futures are the first exchange-traded derivatives contracts to track the Hang Seng Biotech Index (HSBIO), launched on 16 December 2019 to track the performance of the 30 largest biotech, pharmaceuticals and medical device companies listed in Hong Kong that are eligible for Southbound Stock Connect. Trading under the code HBI on HKEX, contracts carry a multiplier of HK$50 per index point and a minimum fluctuation of one index point, and trade across 9:15 am – 12:00 noon, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm – 3:00 am sessions.
The contracts provide investors with a unique tool to manage risk in their exposure to Hong Kong-listed biotech companies, particularly given the sector's volatility. Contracts are cash-settled, based on the average of quotations taken at five-minute intervals on the Last Trading Day.
