Micro E-mini options: 48K+ contracts in the first 10 days

16 September 2020 – Micro E-mini options had an active start in their first 10 days of trading (launched 31 Aug 2020), surpassing 48K contracts traded across two indices for an average daily volume (ADV) of 4.8K contracts.
Market participants are using these smaller-sized options contracts to manage large market-moving events and everyday exposure with greater precision and versatility.
Rising volume and open interest
ADV grew 9% week over week with open interest at over 19K contracts, built up across 10 expiries.
Strong global participation
Participants in 60+ countries traded the Micro E-mini options in the first two weeks, with 10% of overall volume coming from outside the US and over 18% of the volume traded before the US cash open.
Robust underlying futures market
Micro E-mini S&P 500 futures (MES) and Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures (MNQ) traded an average of 2.7M contracts daily month to date, with MES reaching record volume of 2.04M on Sep 8.
